Pursued

Pursued

He's coming after me
Intent upon destroying
Hopes and daring dreams
With taunts and hurts deploying
That I might finally be
Submitted to a fate
Of his askew creation
Upon the Lord, I wait
The truth, one cannot quell
From Living Waters' well
I quench my searching thirst
The last is now the first

  1. Thought-provoking poem, Martha. The enemy may hunt us down, but isn't it incredible to think the God of everything pursues a relationship with each of us? It blows my mind. Once we surrender our lives to the Lord, NOTHING can separate us from His love.

  2. You are absolutely right, Beckie - nothing can separate us from the Lord's abiding love! The enemy may hunt us down and pursue us, but he can't win. This poem comes from feeling much more under attack than I have over this last year, and the Lord helped me to generate an answer.

  4. Martha, this is interesting...satan does come after us to attempt to bring us down, to destroy us. At the same time, God pursues us--He pursues us first (that grace that comes before) as we pursue Him.

    Love and blessings!

  12. I love it that, although the enemy of our soul pursues us, the lover of our soul is also seeking us and He is greater!

Have a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving!

  13. Wow! I am seeing that word a lot this week!! Pursue!! I love that you are exploring it in your poem. I think of the word in Psalm 23, where God `pursues us` with His mercy and loving kindness!! When we think of his pursuing us with His love and kindness, and how actively He does so, may that pursuit chase away and dispel any and every enemy of our souls as we welcome His lovingkindness and mercy!! Blessings!!

  29. The devil is a liar, and tries to deceive us through the carnal mind, thank God we have the mind of Christ. That is why we must take every thought captive and bring it into obedience to the word of truth spoken to us by our Lord daily.

  30. This is beautifully written Martha! How true it is... his schemes and designs come to naught as we wait on the Lord and trust His will and ways. I love your final line

  36. Some believe that we have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. There are certainly enough cartoons and comics based on this. Which one will we listen to? Which one will we feed? When grateful, loving, and appreciative, you are facing and interacting with the angel who comes closer. When you are angry, upset, and worried you are facing the devil who draws closer and makes it worse. We are suspended perfectly between the two and the choice is always ours. This is the source of our free will. The choices we make are everything . The devil never leaves completely so the choice is always ours. But we can weaken him immeasurably by making it a habit to turn to the light which only grows brighter even though life continues and clouds sometimes move in. Be aware. Your choice. Hobnob with the angels. Until the day you join them.

  49. Your poem expresses a powerful resilience and faith in the face of adversity. It reflects a struggle against an adversary who seeks to undermine hopes and dreams, using taunts and hurts to discourage and destroy. Despite this opposition, your resolve to trust in the Lord and wait for His guidance shines through.
