Not Taken

Admonition,
Not taken.
Advice with love,
Not taken.
Soul's reflection,
Not taken.

Left to wonder
If parental
Advice ceases
Once the body
Leaves the home.

  1. I think parental advice might have the potential to reach its fruition, to really become realized as wisdom and appreciated, sometimes especially after one leaves their body. This is because the child is undoubtedly older and starts experiencing more and more of the world by trial and error. The parent's words starting to echo through their consciousness as their experiences are met with both victory and defeat. They can see that advice they were given in a wider perspective.

    Hope that makes sense.

  3. Na. Sometimes it takes a breather, but it never goes totally away. I still hear Mom and Dad's advice and often take it. Dad died in 1993 and Mom in 2002, but their advice is still with me.

    1. So wonderful that you still hear the advice of your mother and father, Joyce, and take it. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I agree with Jessica ~ left to explore, question and walk on their own, children are able to use 'proper' judgment... I really learned a lot from my experiences [heeding/not heeding my parents' advice].

    1. Yes, Melissa, most of the time, children will make the right choices if they've been given the basics of social civility. There were many times, to my regret, that I didn't listen to the advice of my parents. :)
