Do You Remember?

DADDY

You loved me from
The moment I was born.
You gave me hope when
Life seemed all forlorn.

You loved me when
I made a mess of things,
And, brought me back;
Allowed my heart to sing.

Of my hand,
You never did let go.
You held it close,
Yet, gave me room to grow.

Daddy, now,
I watch you fail in age,
In health.
Time to turn the final page?

Daddy, Abba, stay!
Never go away!

  1. My heart goes out to you Martha. I can't imagine what you are feeling right now. I lived with and watched my husband's grandmother decline from this disease, it's very difficult for all involved. Lots of love and prayers go to you your father, and the rest of your family. <3

    1. Oh, Suzy, that your heart broke . . . It's never easy to watch a loved one drift away. I am so concerned for my mom who thinks she can handle it all at 84. God love her!
She is one stubborn woman who won't let me go down there and clean the house for her.
Thanks for your sweet comment, my friend! Blessings and love!

    1. I am praying, Janu, that God gives me the strength to get through it all. I want to help in any way I can, but, as I told Suzy, my mom is so stubborn and self-reliant, it will take a miracle for her to want me to stay for several days and get their house to rights. I long to honor my parents, but they certainly don't want to be beholding.
Thank you for your love and understanding, Janu. It means so much!

  5. I had to work up the courage to come over and read this... I lost my dad to a brain tumor, which altered his mind in the course of it... Thus, I wasn't sure I could tackle your love for your own dad without breaking down (which I did), but in a good way. You captured the love a child carries in her heart so beautifully. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Martha.

  6. Martha, I know what a difficult time you are facing. Your earthly father so closely resembles your heavenly father in character that it will be all the harder to let go.

I lost my dad to cancer back in the 80s, and during the last year of his life I grieved deeply.

    Here’s my tribute to mine.

  7. I love your use of the word 'Daddy', Martha - it brought out the beautiful relationship you both enjoy and expresses your need for his presence in your life. I pray for your family, especially your Mum that she lets go and expresses her need for help with the caregiving. My love and prayers to you, dear friend.

  10. Aww, hugs to you, Martha. I remember my great grandma who had Alzhiemer's and then was bedridden for four years. I was still a little girl back then and my grandpa (her son) took care of her until she passed away. May God give you, and especially your mom, the strength to endure this trial. Hugs and much love to you <3

    1. Thanks so much for visiting, Irene, and for sharing your memories of your great-grandma. It must have been so hard on your grandfather, but he, indeed, did the right thing by caring for her until the end.

  11. How painful to see him slipping away. I think you grieve gradually when you lose a loved one this way. The grief gets spread out over time. Blessings to help you on this journey.

    1. Thank you, Galen, for coming by and for your kind words of comfort. And, I agree - the grieving is spread out over time which does help in coping with each step in the process. I'm hoping that writing out my thoughts and feelings will help to accept, trust, and, finally, heal.
      Blessings and love to you!

  13. I'll never forget that look of desperation in my mom's blue eyes those last few days. She couldn't talk, the doctor's said she couldn't understand us, but I knew she could. She was so scared and I think I let her down, I hope I didn't.
